By all accounts, the CKC Charity Event featuring the Purina National held in friendly Tillsonburg over the March 10/11 weekend was a resounding success. More than 1350 dog entries competed on Saturday and Sunday for almost $30,000 in prize money, with proceeds going to the CKC Charity Foundation. Judging responsibilities were handled by top-notch international judges from as far away as Spain and Columbia and renowned judges from the US and Canada. Perhaps the apex of the event was Saturday’s Black-tie Best in Show, followed by a wine and cheese reception.
Passionate and committed sponsors helped make this show a winner; thanks to lead sponsor Purina for their outstanding vision and dedication, Xerox for their printing support, media experts Dogs in Canada magazine, the Kittling Ridge Estate Wines and Spirits and the Dairy Farmers of Canada for their mouth-watering contributions and Kevin Smith and Canine Show Services for their outstanding show management.
Thanks to everyone who competed, attended and bought raffle tickets and a special nod to handlers Tom Curly, Diane Bell and Graeme Burdon who donated winnings back to the charity. Final numbers have yet to be published but the CKC Charity Event generated well in excess of $30,000 for the CKC Foundation, reminding us that members of the dog community have hearts as big as Tillsonburg.
