Our contacts at Air Canada recently informed CKC that a slight change was made to the Air Canada pet in cabin policy. Please note that the height for soft-sided carriers has increased from 21.5” x 15.5” x 9” (LxWxH) to 21.5” x 15.5” x 10.5”. This should be a welcome change for Air Canada customers as there were not many soft-sided pet carriers under 9”. The height restriction of 9” still applies to hard-sided carriers.
As part of their ongoing commitment to customer service, Air Canada has also provided a Pet Travel Checklist to ensure that you and your pet are well-prepared prior to the trip.
Please note that seasonal restrictions still apply for pets travelling as baggage via Air Canada. As a result, Air Canada is not able to transport pets as checked baggage from December 18 to January 7 and as Air Canada Cargo from December 15 to January 11. There is also a system-wide embargo for pets traveling as checked baggage on flights from Toronto to Mexico City (southbound) from September 14 to January 14, as well as on flights to Jamaica (southbound) from July 1 to December 31.
Holiday embargo dates also apply to pets travelling as checked baggage via WestJet. From December 11 to December 14 and from January 7 to January 10, a maximum of two animals will be accepted in checked baggage. WestJet will not accept animals as checked baggage from December 15 to January 6, inclusive. Restrictions are also imposed by individual countries. Please ensure that you understand all applicable restrictions and have all required documentation before travelling with your pet to/from another country, to avoid fines or the quarantine of your pet. For more information about a particular country’s restrictions, please click here or for further details, please contact the embassy or consulate of your destination country.
