The CKC Responsible Dog Ownership Committee has
created, and made available to members, a series of comprehensive informational booklets designed to help dog owners integrate their pet within the local community. The Dog-Friendly booklets cover a variety of topics, including children and safety around dogs; bite prevention for people who encounter unfriendly dogs through work; what to do if your dog is lost, and more.
Each topic is thoroughly researched and discussed in a
format that’s suitable for both adults and children. The booklets are bold, colourful and filled with fun, canine-inspired illustrations that will make them easily accessible to schools, community groups, local businesses, service clubs and associations.
This pro-active CKC initiative provides an excellent opportunity for our CKC clubs and individual members to present themselves as authoritative and passionate advocates for all issues related to dogs and their valued place in Canadian society. The guides also offer an opportunity to raise the profile of the purebred dog Fancy
and to promote the Fancy's knowledge, experience and ability to support the larger community of dog owners or people interacting with dogs in their work lives or their neighbourhoods.
In the coming weeks we will be adding more Dog-Friendly
booklets, including, how to choose the purebred dog breed that’s right for you; understanding puppy behavior, and introducing a new dog to your environment. All existing and future CKC booklets are available to members in a
PDF format, which can be easily downloaded or printed directly from our website. Simply log on and
go to CKC Resources/Dog-Friendly Educational Guides.
We encourage all our members to get out into their communities and use the CKC Outreach Package to help increase awareness and enhance the profile of the CKC and our affiliate clubs.
