Under the National Animal Health Program, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) establishes import requirements for all animals and animal products entering Canada - including domestic pets. The Agency can refuse
entry to any animal presented for importation.
CFIA regulations may be interpreted differently in different circumstances and in individual
cases persons who have not followed the regulations have had the result of the agency refusing the dog entry. Therefore it is imperative that www.inspection.gc.ca be consulted well in advance of any shipment so you understand the necessary requirements and limitations.
In order to assist our CKC members a consolidation of relevant CFIA
information from their website has been posted to the CKC site and is provided for your reference. To access the material login and select CFIA dog importation guidelines from the Membership Services menu.
Please be advised however that the CKC is not responsible for and does not take any responsibility for the failure of any individual to review and observe CFIA regulations as posted to their website nor does the CKC take responsibility for the successful or unsuccessful
outcome of the importation of any animal(s). It is the sole responsibility of the individual to review CFIA material and be fully informed as to the terms and conditions of the regulations as they apply.
