Just a reminder that winter restrictions are in effect for pets travelling as checked baggage via Air Canada. Air Canada and Jazz are not able to transport pets within North America as checked baggage or via Air Canada Cargo from December 15, 2010 to January 11, 2011.

Importantly, pets weighing less than 4.5 kg (10 lb) are not accepted as checked baggage on any Air Canada aircraft from November 1, 2010 to March 31, 2011 (or when the temperature is 0 °C or less). Also note that at any time when the temperature is below 7 °C, Air Canada Cargo may not be able to accommodate animals.

Holiday embargo dates also apply to pets travelling as checked baggage via WestJet. WestJet will not accept animals as checked baggage from December 15, 2010 to January 6, 2011. From December 11 to December 14, 2010 and from January 7 to January 10, 2011 a maximum of two animals will be accepted as checked baggage.

Restrictions are also imposed by individual countries. Find out all applicable restrictions and have all required documentation before travelling with your pet to/from another country, to avoid fines or the quarantine of your pet.
