Update for Alberta Members Regarding AAPA
Thank you to all members who have responded to the call-out for volunteers to participate in a CKC Task Group for Alberta.
We have received an overwhelming response from members and are now making determinations as to the parameters of the group, along with initiatives and next steps. Those who have expressed interest will be hearing from us shortly.
As part of our discussions, CKC Zone Director, Sharon Derrick will be attending group meetings on Sunday and Monday. CKC representatives are awaiting confirmation of a meeting with MLA Rick Fraser this coming week to discuss the opportunity for stakeholder consultations that include CKC regarding proposed amendments to Alberta’s Animal Protection Act (AAPA). The draft changes to the AAPA include a ban on cropping and docking procedures and a mandatory licensing of all breeders.
We recognize the many views that this subject inspires and encourage all members to weigh in on these important matters.
