We are looking for someone to join our talented team to fill the full-time vacant role of Director of Advocacy and Communication.
Please note the location of this position will be determined later in the recruitment process based on organizational business needs and the successful candidate’s location in Canada. Preference will be given to those applicants that can work occasionally from the CKC office in Etobicoke, Ontario.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Director of Advocacy and Communications is a member of the Senior Management Team. The position is accountable for the over- arching strategy and execution that ties together CKC’s advocacy efforts, membership engagement and external communications to support our mission and our vision.
The Director will manage and work with the Manager, Government & Stakeholder Relations, Manager, Product and Experience and the Supervisor, Communications and Marketing. The Director will use their knowledge and expertise to strengthen our ability to realize our vision and implement our advocacy roadmap using strategic communications to support our efforts to engage CKC stakeholders, build and expand our digital presence and growing the CKC voice in Canadian canine conversations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with the leadership team, the Board of Directors and volunteer committees to build programs that strategically strengthen the excellence of CKC and our members’ efforts for the health and preservation of purebred dogs.
- Further develop and implement CKC’s advocacy road map and recommend the resources required to grow our expertise and impact.
- Build out CKC’s communication framework that addresses key advocacy and communication requirements to support CKC’s key messaging.
- Responsible for CKC digital communications, assets and strategies including the launch of a new website and the build out of our social media channels.
- Develop CKC’s earned media strategy and support opportunistic, and crisis communications as needed.
- Work in partnership with the Operations and E-business teams, to have consistent and effective communications to our various stakeholder groups. Support this team to further engage and grow CKC’s membership to support CKC’s revenue, reputation, and voice as the Canadian canine expert.
- Be the senior staff liaison for volunteer committees as assigned.
- Build 3rd party partnerships with like-minded organizations that support our advocacy and communication efforts.
- Contributes to corporate and divisional budgets for revenues and expenses.
- Provides effective direction and leadership to staff, including effective change management, performance evaluation and encouragement of staff participation in personal and professional development.

OTHER:
- Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to work productively remotely. Preference to those candidates who will thrive in a hybrid work model including occasional days in our head office in Etobicoke.
- CKC is a dog friendly work environment – comfort with dogs is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- 10+ years hands on and management experience as a leader in communication and advocacy.
- Experience with knowledgeable volunteer committees and passionate Board of Directors.
- Experience working in canine-based organizations and dealing with dog related advocacy, and communication issues is preferred, yet not required.
SALARY:
- $105,000 - $117,000 (commensurate with experience)

We are looking for someone to join our talented team to fill the vacant role of Director of Finance. This role is a 3 days a week position.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Director of Finance is CKC’s senior finance role and is a key member of the Leadership Team. The role is responsible for the accuracy of the financial systems including financial reporting, strategic financial management, budgeting and forecasting, risk management, internal controls, financial policy, and balance sheet management. The position will provide a financial viewpoint at the leadership table for all key decisions. This is a hands-on role which leads and supports the small and dedicated finance team while supporting other departments with improved and accurate financial processes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure complete, accurate and compliant financial processing
- Maintain and evolve the suite of financial reporting, including the presentation of simplified and meaningful reports for the Board of Directors
- Responsible for the organization’s adherence to our existing financial policies while providing recommendations to improve policies and processes
- Responsible for the health of the organization’s balance sheet and cash flows as well as the proper allocation and management of reserve funds
- Work with the Executive Director and Audit committee to highlight and solve for financial risks and opportunities
- Work with the leadership team to recommend, assess, prioritize and execute on strategic priorities
- Support all departments on the financial considerations of their team’s priorities including operational processing, IT, product development, sponsorship and communications
- Staff liaison for the Audit Committee and supports the ED with board liaison activities
- Leads the annual budgeting, reforecasting and annual audit processes and is the senior liaison with our external audit partners
- Signs off on the month end process and supports the Finance Manager with any related accounting considerations
- Supports in the sourcing, negotiation and maintenance of key vendor and service contracts
- Supports with potential to lead privacy and legal initiatives
- Supports with potential to lead strategy development
- Lead on key projects as defined by CKC strategy and priorities from the leadership
- Provides effective direction and leadership to staff, including effective change management, performance evaluation and encouragement of staff participation in personal and professional development

CKC Seeks Volunteer for the Appeal Committee
The Board of Directors of the Canadian Kennel Club encourages active participation from the general membership of the Club and requests submissions from interested voting members to fill four (4) positions to serve on the Appeal Committee. The term of the appointment shall be for a period of three (3) years from April 2026 to March 2029 and, the Committee meets virtually one to two (1-2) times per year.

As per the CKC By-laws “no member of the Registration or Appeal Committees or Board of Directors shall be a member and no former member of the Board of Directors is entitled to be a member for a period of two (2) years immediately following the expiration of their term of office. Members of the Appeal Committee may not hold any other position on any other CKC committee or council other than the Chair of the Appeal Committee, who may sit on the Legislation Committee.”
CKC Seeks Volunteer for the Communications Committee

Communications Committee
The Communications Committee shall be a committee of six (6) members, two (2) of whom shall be members of the Board and four (4) Board appointed members from the general membership of the Club.
The Committee shall be responsible for:
- Providing input on the communications strategic planning process;
- Identifying CKC’s communications needs and priorities through appropriate consultations; and from time to time, delivering on projects and priorities as specified by the Board, the Committee and staff;
- Assessing and evaluating the delivery of communications periodically against the needs and/or expectations of the CKC membership.
CKC Seeks Volunteers for Replacement Appeal Committee for One Hearing
The Canadian Kennel Club Regulatory Department has received an appeal whereby, the Board of Directors’ have actioned a Replacement Appeal Committee to uphold the impartiality and fairness of the appeal process. This comes as a result of a recusal of some of the current committee members. This Replacement Appeal Committee is for one hearing and is not to be confused with the regular Appeal Committee which is also up for appointment for the next term of 2026-2029.
The Board of Directors of the Canadian Kennel Club is requesting submissions from interested members to fill four (4) positions on the Replacement Appeal Committee. In accordance with CKC By-law 13.9, “the term of office for such replacement members or replacement committee shall be for the period that the committee is required to hear a case, render a decision and provide reasons for decision.” The replacement committee is for one hearing expected to take place in March or April 2026. Providing the appointment of the Committee takes place on February 28, 2026, applicants must be available for a mandatory orientation session on March 17thand to hear the file on the date to be determined.

This replacement Appeal Committee will meet virtually to hear one matter on a designated weekend (date to be determined). Your commitment will include thorough preparation for the hearing by reviewing all materials ahead of the hearing, as well as post-hearing work to support decisions and staff administration thereof.
Background in the legal field or some experience working with tribunals due to the quasi-judicial nature of the Committee is an asset. The Board of Directors has established Candidate Selection Criteria for Discipline and Appeal Committees as follows:
