What do you do when you have reached the Top? You set a new standard of achievement.
In honour of the incredible lifetime achievements of GMOTCh. Clitheroe R Commander N Chief RAE42 (Fly’R) and his owner-handler, Charlie MacMillan, the 2015 Top Dogs results debuted a brand new category: the Multi-Discipline Top Dogs (MD). MD celebrates the versatility of Top Dogs by recognizing teams who have earned Top Dog status in two or more disciplines at the breed, group or all breeds level.
Fly’R was the first dog in CKC history to achieve Top 10 All Breeds in two disciplines and he did it in style – for six years straight - showing novice and veteran competitors alike the value of versatility. Proving versatility is about demonstrating a range of skills and readiness for a variety of activities. This comes with time, as the handler and dog begin with training a solid foundation of skills, often drawing on the dog’s natural abilities, and grow as a team from there. Many CKC member breeders take great pride in showcasing their dogs’ exceptional conformation quality in the show ring, and also demonstrating their dogs’ fitness for purpose by excelling in performance events that require the skills of their breed’s original purpose.
After Fly’R retired at the end of the 2015 competitive season, the mantle of Top Multi-Discipline Dog was taken up by first-time trainer, Heather Watt, and the incomparable Caesar.
No matter your reason, your experience level or which dog sport first caught your eye, the Top MD Dogs are proof that the fun and irreplaceable bond of dog sport will have you coming back for more!
