#1 – RGCH Sidekick's Epic Rebel With Paws RMX10 RAE11 SX JTS CDX SDO CGN DSA VB

d32d680f-6198-4594-861b-0f6ad169bdeb-Michael-Slack.jpgCall Name: Rebel D
Miniature American Shepherd
Date of Birth: June 11, 2021
Breeder(s): Ellen Robarts and Karen Douglas
Owner(s): Dr. Anthony Fielding, Ellen Robarts & Karen Douglas
Handler(s): Dr. Anthony Fielding
Province: Nova Scotia

The Canadian Kennel Club is proud to recognize Rebel, a Miniature American Shepherd handled by Dr. Anthony Fielding, as the top Rally Obedience dog for 2025. After finishing 10th in 2024, Rebel and Anthony set out with the goal of reaching the top five in 2025. Being based in the Maritime provinces, where there are a limited number of trials, means teams must travel outside their region to achieve Top Dog status. This duo made numerous trips to Quebec and Ontario to compete, where they met many wonderful teams and judges. A late-season push, culminating in a three-week trip to Ontario in November, ultimately catapulted them into the top spot.

Travelling, while fun, does add an extra layer to trialing. The Ontario trials were among their most memorable moments, as the venues and clubs were new to them. Anthony is most proud of Rebel’s ability to maintain a high average score despite the rigours of travelling multiple days to attend trials. Their scoring average was the highest among the top 30 teams, demonstrating their consistency throughout the season.

Generally loyal and eager to learn, the Miniature American Shepherd is a versatile breed that can excel in many sports. In addition to Rally, Rebel earned titles in multiple disciplines in 2025, including obedience, agility, dock diving, sprinter, and disc. In obedience, he ranked 34th All Breeds and 5th in the Herding Group, finishing as the top Miniature American Shepherd and earning two High in Trial awards. While Anthony gained a lot of conformation experience in his youth, dog sports were new to him, and Rebel is his first dog. Their success across multiple sports reflects the strong bond between them and their ability to train and learn together.

Anthony and Rebel’s journey was supported by their instructor, Jane McNee, fellow competitors, supportive judges, and, most importantly, their family. Travelling for extended periods of time is only possible with the knowledge that everything at home is being well looked after.

Whether you are considering entering dog sports for the first time or have been competing for many years, Anthony and Rebel’s success demonstrates that a strong bond, enthusiasm, and a supportive environment can lead to meaningful achievements. They would also like to congratulate all the Top Dogs of 2025.

Image-10-1.jpegCall Name: Hank
Labrador Retriever
Date of Birth: November 3, 2014 – January 20, 2026
Breeder(s): Laurie Warvill
Owner(s): Andrea & Matt Turnbull
Handler(s): Andrea Turnbull
Province: Ontario

In 2025, Hank and I went out simply to play Rally and begin teaching Frede, his younger brother, the ropes. Hank and I had nothing left to prove and nothing left to earn; we simply wanted to enjoy our time together in the trial ring. Though our story didn’t end the way I hoped, his presence in the ring was unmistakable—confident, joyful, and unforgettable.

Hank’s spirit will not end here. His legacy will live on through the way I move forward—championing every team, lifting others up, and helping to teach and strengthen the partnerships that come after us.

Hank, my love, you opened a door I didn’t know existed and changed the direction of my life forever. You were the best boy ever made.

With endless gratitude to my husband, Matt, for his steady support, encouragement, and for holding down the fort while we found our place in a community bound together by the love of dogs.

The Canadian Kennel Club is honoured to celebrate Hank’s life and the extraordinary partnership he shared with Andrea. Their journey is a powerful reminder that dog sports are not defined by titles alone, but by connection, trust, and the joy found in working together. Hank’s legacy lives on not only through his accomplishments, but through the kindness, leadership, and community Andrea continues to foster in his name. He will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude, and we wish Andrea and her family all the very best.

Rally-Grand-Champion-Maya.jpgCall Name: Maya
Australian Shepherd
Date of Birth: October 8, 2020
Breeder(s): Kateryna Kolomiiets
Owner(s): Dr. Monique Dube
Handler(s): Dr. Monique Dube
Province: Alberta

Maya, an Australian Shepherd owned and handled by Dr. Monique Dube of Alberta, had an exceptional 2025 season, finishing as the #3 Rally Obedience dog, All Breeds, while also earning the distinction of being the #1 Australian Shepherd in both Rally Obedience and Agility. For Dr. Dube, the most meaningful part of the year was not a single ribbon, but seeing their hard work translate across multiple sports. “This was the year where we came together as a multi-sport team,” she says, calling it the most memorable and rewarding season of their journey.

Imported from war-torn Odesa, Ukraine, Maya has built an extraordinary partnership with Dr. Dube, one defined by trust, versatility, and resilience. “She is the most intelligent, versatile dog I have ever owned, worked with, or trained,” Dr. Dube says. Beyond her own accomplishments, Maya has also made her mark as a mother, producing two litters that have gone on to excel across multiple dog sports. After welcoming her second litter in February 2025, she returned to competition with confidence and strength, once again earning her place among the CKC’s Top Dogs. Beyond the ring, Maya is the steady presence in Dr. Dube’s pack, often called upon to help socialize and support other dogs with her calm, confident leadership. “There is always a dog that teaches you,” Dr. Dube reflects, “and Maya is it for me.”

The Australian Shepherd’s drive and adaptability shine through in Maya’s work. “This breed is limitless in their abilities,” says Dr. Dube, emphasizing the importance of clear communication to unlock their full potential. Dr. Dube also highlights the spirit of cooperation that defined the rally community throughout the season, where handlers supported one another regardless of discipline. Looking ahead, she encourages newcomers to celebrate every success: “Just entering the ring is a success. Be encouraged by small successes and learn from the NQs.”

Finishing as a CKC Top Dog for the second consecutive year, Maya’s 2025 achievements are a testament to partnership, perseverance, and the joy of the sport.

George-pic-2.jpgCall Name: George
Golden Retriever
Date of Birth: July 2, 2021
Breeder(s): Barbara & Alison Gowan
Owner(s): Brigitte Hayes
Handler(s): Brigitte Hayes
Province: Ontario

George, a Golden Retriever bred by Barbara and Alison Gowan and owned and handled by Brigitte Hayes of Ontario, had a milestone year in 2025, earning a place among the CKC’s Top Dogs in Rally Obedience. For Brigitte, one of the most memorable moments was “earning our Grand Champion in April. George got lots of pup cups & Timbits!”

She also cherishes the opportunity they had to participate in a CBC Nature of Things documentary exploring canine communication, calling it “such an amazing experience!”

George is Brigitte’s first dog in sport, and their rally journey began as a way to build his confidence. “We started in 2023 to help him build confidence in everyday situations that seem to stress him out,” she shares. “I can see him gaining more and more confidence year over year and I could not be prouder of him.”

True to his breed, George brings enthusiasm and joy to the ring. “The first run of the day I always have to reel him in as he’s so excited,” Brigitte laughs, noting that judges, stewards, and fellow handlers often comment that they are such a “happy team.”

Brigitte is grateful for the support behind their success. She thanks her husband, “our biggest fan,” along with Cheryl Bishop of Elite Dog Training for mentorship and encouragement. She also treasures “all friends at Elite Dog Training who make it so much fun in class and the many lifelong friends we have met at trials. It is a community we are so lucky to be a part of.”

For those just beginning in dog sports, Brigitte encourages members to “find a great training facility to train and build confidence with your dog,” attend a trial to watch or shadow another handler, or volunteer with a club to learn how events run. Giving back has become part of their journey, as she recently joined the Golden Retriever Club of Greater Toronto to support the sport.

“George and I made Top Dogs for a second year. It’s definitely validation for all our hard work,” she says, adding that she is proud when others share that they hope to adopt her handling style. Their journey reflects confidence gained, friendships formed, and a partnership that continues to grow stronger each season.

#5 – RGCH Jackson RAE5 RMX6 S SDN CD CGN VN

jack-jack.jpgCall Name: Jackson
English Cocker Spaniel
Date of Birth: September 24, 2018
Breeder(s): Unknown
Owner(s): Mathieu Crête
Handler(s): Mathieu Crête
Province: Québec

Jackson, an English Cocker Spaniel owned and handled by Mathieu Crête of Québec, enjoyed a truly meaningful 2025 season, earning his place as the #5 Rally Obedience dog, All Breeds. For Mathieu, the most memorable part of the year went far beyond the rankings. “My most memorable moment of 2025 is the friendship that we create in the Top 10 teams and our win at the English Cocker National Rally trial,” he shares.

Mathieu’s connection with Jackson is at the heart of their success. “When you have a connection with your dog doing a sport that even he loves, that’s my main goal with Jackson,” he says. While Jackson may not enjoy training, he brings his absolute best to the trial ring. “When we are at a trial, he is there at 100 per cent and will never let me down.” What makes Jackson truly special, Mathieu adds, is his joy. “His tail never stops wagging from start to finish, and as soon as we pass the finish sign, you’ll see him jump because he’s so happy.”

Jackson’s journey has also been marked by resilience. In December 2024, he suffered a stroke that left him temporarily paralysed on his left side. After months of rest, exercise, and medication, Jackson returned to competition stronger than ever. “He is a little dog with a big heart,” Mathieu says. “You cannot have a better dog than him.”

Mathieu is deeply grateful to those who supported them along the way, especially his mentor Diane Rockburn, who introduced him to rally when Jackson was just five months old. He also thanks friends Andrea and Hank, Anthony and Rebel, Dayna and Butler, Brigitte and George, and Lynette and Boss. For those just starting out, Mathieu offers simple advice: “Have fun, don’t put pressure on yourself or your dog. Sometimes you are going to have bad days, and that’s okay. The main goal is that you’re doing this with your best friend.”

#6 – RGCH Lark The Shark RMX4 RAE4 CD

d84143ae-d7f8-422f-a612-0799e80c3f18.jpgCall Name: Lark
Mixed Breed
Date of Birth: July 17, 2020
Breeder(s): Unknown
Owner(s): Lisa Filiatrault
Handler(s): Lisa Filiatrault
Province: Alberta

Lark had a standout year in Rally Obedience, earning her place as the #6 All Breeds dog in the Canadian Kennel Club’s Top Dogs rankings. One of the most memorable moments of the season came at the Alberta Kennel Club Summer Classic, where Lark and her owner and handler, Lisa Filiatrault, earned the High Master aggregate. “At this same show last year, we had just entered our first Excellent A class,” Lisa says. “So, it was great to see how much progress we had made in a year.”

As Lisa’s first performance dog, Lark has been an ideal partner for learning and competing in dog sports. “She has been the best partner I could have asked for to start training and competing with,” Lisa shares. An Australian Cattle Dog mix, Lark brings the intelligence, drive, and strong work ethic typical of the breed to every run. She also has quite a bit of attitude on occasion and, as a puppy, earned the nickname “Lark the Shark,” a fitting reflection of her bold and confident personality.

Throughout the season, Lisa credits much of their success to the support and guidance of their coach, Amanda Labadie of Many Muddy Paws Dog Training. “She has been one of our biggest supporters and has helped us build confidence as a team, as well as helped me to become a better handler for my dog,” Lisa notes.

When reflecting on the season, Lisa shares that earning a Top Dog spot was never the original goal. “When I started showing this year, my goal was just to get to as many shows as I could,” she says. She credits Lark’s consistency and endless work ethic for making the year so enjoyable and for carrying them to this achievement. “My favourite moments are when I can see my dog is happy and enjoying her job,” Lisa adds. This is a philosophy she encourages anyone just beginning their rally journey to embrace.

Elliott-Photography-Brio.jpegCall Name: Brio
Doberman Pinscher
Date of Birth: December 3, 2016
Breeder(s): Jason Bane
Owner(s): Monica Anthony
Handler(s): Monica Anthony
Province: Ontario

Brio, a powerful and charismatic Doberman owned and handled by Monica Anthony of Ontario, has earned his place as the #8 All-Breed Rally Obedience dog for 2025. Bred by Jason Bane, Brio’s Top Dogs achievement reflects not only his exceptional ability, but a partnership grounded in heart, gratitude, and remembrance.

For Monica, the most meaningful moments go far beyond ribbons. “Celebrating Brio’s ninth birthday was a special milestone,” she shares, “but truly, every day with him is memorable and I am grateful for the time we share.” That mindset guides her advice to others: “Always keep the dog at the centre of the experience. Enjoy the journey you share, because their time with us is precious and never long enough.”

As a working-line, intact male Doberman, Brio brings drive, intelligence, and personality into the ring. “Brio is naturally driven and very clever,” Monica explains. “He loves trying to outsmart me by anticipating the next task and often adds his own flair to exercises, as if he’s aiming for ‘Brio Bonus Points.’” He also relishes the spotlight. “He loves to work in front of an audience, and he’s such a ham when people clap for him.” Monica is grateful to the CKC community for providing opportunities to trial in multiple sports, where Brio has earned an extraordinary 75 titles.

Monica extends heartfelt thanks to Joe Dworatschek of the Windsor Schutzhund Club, who recognized Brio’s potential early and helped channel his big emotions into focused work. “I truly don’t believe we would have achieved even one title, let alone 75 titles across multiple sports, without his support.”

Achieving CKC Top Dog status is deeply meaningful. It honours Brio’s abilities and drives, while also remembering Monica’s friend, Sgt. Collin Rose, whose tragic end of watch occurred shortly before Brio’s litter was born. Each puppy in the litter carries Collin’s last name in their registered name as a lasting tribute, making every accomplishment in the ring a reflection of both legacy and love.

dube-Wascana-39235-copy.jpgCall Name: Addie
Australian Shepherd
Date of Birth: November 28, 2022
Breeder(s): Dr. Monique Dube
Owner(s): Dr. Monique Dube
Handler(s): Dr. Monique Dube
Province: Alberta

Addie, a dynamic Australian Shepherd, captured national attention in 2025 as the #9 All-Breed Rally Obedience dog in Canada. Bred, owned, and handled by Dr. Monique Dube of Alberta under her Big Rock Australian Shepherds prefix, Addie’s season was defined by versatility, resilience, and true partnership.

This year brought extraordinary milestones. Addie earned a Best in Show, Breeder/Owner/Handler win, her Grand Champion Excellent, Versatility Gold, and Rally Grand Championship. For Dr. Dube, these achievements were deeply meaningful. “My first for my breeding which is very exciting for Big Rock Australian Shepherds!” she shares.

Australian Shepherds are known for their intelligence and sensitivity, and Addie is no exception. “Aussies are highly intelligent and acutely aware and sensitive to their surroundings,” says Dr. Dube. Success in rally depends on subtle communication. “As a performance handler I am able to use eye contact, pace, body position, tone, etc. to communicate. The only limitation to their ability to understand is my ability to communicate inside and outside the ring.”

Addie’s journey has not been without challenges. Described as “very loyal and intelligent” and “a spicy red head!” she required creativity in training to work through fears both in and out of the ring. “She just turned three and has already accomplished so much once we figured each other out!”

Dr. Dube extends heartfelt thanks to her family, mentors Lori-Ann Fisher and Sandy Haydu, the supportive rally judges and ring stewards, and judge Judith Snowdon, whose constructive feedback helped her grow as a handler.

For those beginning in dog sports, her advice is simple: “Find your people.” And for Addie and Dr. Dube, Top Dog status reflects what matters most: “Together, in a partnership, as a team, our hard work, perseverance, and commitment to each other led to something great!”

#10 – RGCH OTCH Terrawyn's Rascal N Roses RAE76 RMX5 RAE6 CGN

rallyacdc-022-razz.JPGCall Name: Razz
Miniature Schnauzer
Date of Birth: August 7, 2020
Breeder(s): Shirley Sarvas
Owner(s): Shirley Sarvas
Handler(s): Shirley Sarvas
Province: Saskatchewan

Razz, a determined Miniature Schnauzer from Saskatchewan, delivered another exceptional season in 2025, earning her Rally Grand Champion and Obedience Trial Champion titles and securing a place in the CKC Rally Top 10 for the second consecutive year. Owner, breeder, and handler Shirley Sarvas could not be prouder of her talented partner.

“Schnauzers/terriers are not noted for their obedience/rally competitiveness, making it all the sweeter to have my partner enjoy working so happily with me,” Shirley shares.

Their success is rooted in a thoughtful, positive approach to training. “For training, I cannot do too much repetitive work and certainly cannot make a Schnauzer do anything. Our training is always positive, always fun and lots of treats. I know I’m doing a good job when she’s happy to go to classes and trials.” This focus on enjoyment and engagement has helped Razz thrive in both rally and obedience.

Nicknamed “Super Schnauzer,” Razz has impressed Shirley with her incredible stamina and enthusiasm. “I’m totally amazed with Razz’s stamina and desire to work over and over in rally trials, sometimes doing 18 runs in a three-day trial,” she says.

Shirley credits much of their journey to the strong support around them, including a trusted trainer, two local dog clubs, many dog friends, and especially her twin sister, who is always there to cheer them on and celebrate milestones.

“I am very honored to be in the CKC Rally Top 10,” Shirley says. With more obedience and rally planned for 2026, Razz has already made it clear she is not ready to stay home.
