Grooming
When you see a dog rolling on the ground or chewing at matted hair or licking their fur, you are watching them grooming themselves and it generally means that they’re itchy or uncomfortable in some way.
Most dogs will benefit from regular brushing. This helps remove dirt and tangles and spreads the natural oils that dogs produce throughout their coat.
As well as brushing their fur, your dog will require other types of grooming which you can learn to do at home or you may prefer to have a professional perform for you.
Brushing teeth, clipping nails, cleaning ears and bathing are tasks that are part and parcel of being a dog owner. Making these into fun activities that offer treats, toys and other rewards should make them less dreaded. If you’re having problems or are unsure about performing any of these tasks you should talk to your breeder or vet.
