The requirements to be eligible to apply to become a Canine Good Neighbour evaluator are outlined in detail on this page. After reviewing these guidelines, if you feel you meet all the criteria, we welcome and encourage you to complete and submit an application to become a Canine Good Neighbour evaluator.
Becoming an evaluator requires that you have extensive experience and a sound background in the training and handling of dogs of a variety of breeds,
this must not be exclusive to your own personal dogs. At least five years of experience is required to be eligible.
Experience may consist of instructing dog obedience or conformation classes with various breeds, training therapy dogs, or fieldwork. Working or volunteering in grooming shops, animal shelters, kennels or veterinary clinics will be considered an asset. Two professional letters of reference are required to accompany applications supporting your experience.
Proof of attendance at professional seminars and training clinics is an asset and should be included in your application, as are certifications with organizations such as CCPDT, CAPDT and APDT.
When applying, please be
specific and thorough about your experience and don’t hesitate to add additional paperwork to support your application.
If you meet the requirements, you will be issued an education package which includes an exam which must be completed within 30 days of receipt. You must achieve a minimum grade of 93% to become an evaluator. If you pass, you will be issued a letter of Passed Exam and be added to the CKC’s
List of Evaluators. Newly approved evaluators must be accompanied by a CGN Council Representative for their first two tests and their evaluator status can be revoked if tests are not conducted to standard.
Completed applications should be submitted to the attention of the Events Department electronically to information@ckc.ca and must include credit card information for payment on the form, or by mail and must include payment of the required fees which can be found under the “Judges Fees-Initial Applications” section, line item “CGN Evaluator” in the
