Tattoo

Canadian Born Dogs

A CKC registered dog would have tattoo markings that would consist of a designated tattoo series, serial number for each dog, letter signifying the year the dog was born. For example, ABC (tattoo series assigned to breeder from the CKC) 1 (serial number assigned to the dog) Y (letter representing the year of birth of the dog). A complete tattoo marking would appear similar to this: ABC 1Y. The tattoo year letter for dogs born in 2011 is Y.

Upon entering Canada a dog must be identified with the tattoo series allotted to the Canadian importer along with a serial number.
  • The marking is located in the right or left ear, or left of the flank.Tattoo marking does not exceed seven digits.
  • Tattoo marking is unique and not a duplication of a current CKC tattoo series already in use.
  • Application is accompanied by verification of the tattoo marking through a certified three-generation pedigree.
A year letter is not required for an imported dog. For example: V T F 1
