The Canadian Kennel Club is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Ann McConnell on Saturday, May 30, 2020. Ann was a CKC Life member, Cairn Terrier breeder, Former CKC Board Member for Zone 4 Northern Ontario, and prominent figure in the Canadian Dog Fancy.
Ann and Jim, her husband, attended an Obedience Class with their German Shepherd over 50 years ago-and never looked back. Ann was well respected in the purebred dog world, known for her willingness to help and mentor new people and junior handlers. One of Ann's proudest moments was when she became the Canadian Kennel Club Director for Zone 4, Northern Ontario.
A life member of the Thunder Bay Kennel Club and Training Club, founding member of the Argus Kennel Club and Chief Ring Steward at the Lakehead Kennel Club, Ann generously spent her time serving in whatever capacity she could. Ann wore many hats including Show Secretary, Treasurer, Obedience Trainer, Show Handling Trainer and more.
Ann was dedicated to the promotion of purebred dogs and friendship within the community. The latter could clearly be seen through her actions of always being the first to welcome new people to the clubs and her friendly greetings to anyone she encountered. Her smile, demeanor and willingness to help touched the hearts of everyone she met.
CKC will be forever thankful for Ann’s tremendous contributions to the Canadian Dog Fancy. Our thoughts are with Ann’s family and friends during this difficult time.
