Additional answers to questions submitted during the webinar:
  1. Is there coverage for pups from birth to the day they leave for their forever home?
 As of now, we don’t have a process set up for this. We are always looking for different options to offer our breeders and this is something we hope to offer in the future. Check with your account manager for options on starting coverage a little earlier if you are planning on keeping a puppy from your litter!
  1. At what age is it best to sign up, and how can I ensure rate doesn’t increase?
The best age to sign up pets is on the Go Home Day Offer. We price our pets based on the age of enrollment, so if they enroll as a puppy, they will always be priced as a puppy. This means they will have some of the best pricing available! Every year, at your renewal, Trupanion will review your monthly premium. During this review, the pricing will be adjusted based on what trends we have seen in veterinary costs in the last year - prices can increase, stay the same or decrease. At Trupanion, we have a goal to pay out .72 cents for every dollar that we take in. This is the highest payout in the industry, so we review premiums to ensure we are on track for that goal. To bring these last two points together (benefits of the Go Home Day Offer and how rates are determined), our Breeder Support program helps introduce the ideal candidates to coverage. Not only are you introducing us to responsible pet owners, but you are breeding the highest quality of dogs. Rates being based on the age of enrollment comes from the concept of families that have insurance won’t hesitate to get their pet the treatment that they need. So younger pets have lower rates and better coverage since we can cover anything if it were to come up. The more healthy pets that maintain coverage, the lower costs will be on average to insure a pet.
