The Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) is pleased to co-host its first National Championship Dog show in many years on November 22, 2025.
The show, which will be a feature part of the weekend events, will showcase excellence among purebred dogs and is a special opportunity for these Canadian dogs to compete to win Best in Breed and Best in Show titles. The CKC National Championship Dog Show will also offer competitors the chance to qualify for the world’s largest and most prestigious dog show, the Crufts Dog Show in Birmingham, England.
In addition to the CKC National Championship Dog Show on November 22, 2025, the event weekend offers many opportunities for pet lovers and their pets to enjoy!
The Canadian Pet Expo will offer lots of interactive activities and events and will feature:

- A pet visit and photo with Santa
- A TICA Cat Show
- Creative grooming demonstrations

What is a dog show?
The CKC National Championship Dog Show is a conformation show. It is a show where dogs compete and are judged on how well they conform to the established standards for each breed. While this show is a showcase of many different beautiful dogs, it is not a beauty pageant. Rather, the goal of a conformation show is to recognize and reward dogs that are structurally and behaviourally sound examples of their breed.
A conformation show is one of the tools purebred dog breeders use to evaluate potential breeding animals. A dog’s conformation and temperament indicate a dog’s ability to produce healthy, sound puppies that are able to carry out the breed’s original purpose. For example, the Labrador Retriever (a truly Canadian dog breed!) is known to have gentle ways, intelligence and adaptability. Labrador Retrievers excel at obedience and they will happily retrieve until your arm gives out.
