They are an all-around farm dog and companion that excels in agility and other performance activities. They are capable of independent thinking and require owners who consistently demonstrate loving but firm leadership. For this reason, they are great dogs for second-time dog owners but not well-suited to inexperienced owners. Appenzellers are deeply affectionate with the family members, children, and pets they are raised with. Because they are energetic and may jump up when excited, care should be taken around small children and older adults. They also have strong guardian instincts, are protective of their household, and may be wary of strangers, making early socialisation essential. Puppies are bred with future, health, and well-being in mind. Before entering my breeding program, both the sire and dam passed all breed-related genetic health tests, with results available on the OFA (Orthopaedic Foundation for Animals) website. All Sun Meadow puppies are dewormed, microchipped, and vaccinated, and each goes home with a puppy package that includes a veterinary report card, a free trial pet insurance policy, a 3-year Health Guarantee against life-threatening hereditary and congenital defects, and introductory supplies. All puppies are individually registered with the AMDCA (Appenzell Mountain Dog Club of America) stud book registry and CKC (Canadian Kennel Club).
