Labrador Retriever
Date of Birth: October 2, 2019
Breeder(s): Stuart & Diana Mead
Owner(s): Kiersten Lloyd
Handler(s): Kiersten Lloyd
Province: Alberta

Rip the Labrador Retriever has claimed the #1 spot in Agility, All Breeds for 2025, capping off a remarkable year defined by athleticism, precision, and an extraordinary partnership. Bred by Stuart and Diana Mead of Clubmead Labradors and owned and handled by Kiersten Lloyd of Alberta, Rip exemplifies the intelligence and drive of her Field-line pedigree.

“There have been a few memorable moments this year for Rip and me,” Kiersten shares. “Winning her class at the AAC Regional Championships, coming second at the AAC National Championships. The most satisfying is Rip earning her Grand Agility Master Championship.”

As a CKC agility judge, Kiersten faced the added challenge of balancing judging commitments with competition. “As a CKC agility judge it was hard to actually compete at enough CKC trials to earn enough points to place. This year it was a goal. I’m so proud of Rip.”

Rip’s versatility extends beyond agility. She also finished 11th in Canada in Obedience, reflecting her consistency and work ethic. “Rip is a bit of a perfectionist and one of the most honest dogs I have had the privilege to train, live and compete with,” says Kiersten. “This dog tries so hard to please me regardless of what I ask her to do. The best thing about Rip is that she is one of the best things in my life.”

Kiersten credits Rip’s genetics and thanks her friends, students, and especially her longtime breeders at Clubmead Labradors. “I have had eight brilliant dogs from them.”

Her advice to newcomers: “Never forget that your dog is your pet before anything else. Secondly, develop goals and expectations appropriate to your dog.”

Labrador Retriever
Date of Birth: January 2, 2022
Breeder(s): Stuart & Diana Mead
Owner(s): Kiersten Lloyd
Handler(s): Kiersten Lloyd
Province: Alberta

Reckon, a talented Labrador Retriever, earned her place as the #2 Agility Dog, All Breeds, in 2025 with a season full of heart, speed, and joyful teamwork. Bred by Stuart and Diana Mead of Clubmead Labradors and owned and handled by Kiersten Lloyd of Alberta, Reckon has proven that Labradors can more than hold their own on the agility course.

One of the most memorable highlights of the year was placing 2nd at the AAC Regional Championships and 7th at the AAC National Championships. “She competes against all the really fast Border Collies, so these results for a Labrador are amazing,” Kiersten shares. Reckon’s athleticism, focus, and drive have made her a standout competitor on some of the toughest courses in the country.

Described as “the sweetest, cutest little Labrador,” Reckon brings both talent and personality to the ring. “She tries hard and can be rather goofy at times. She loves Agility and puts all that silly energy into her runs,” says Kiersten. As a Field-bred Labrador with many Field Trial Champions in her pedigree, Reckon’s working background plays an important role in her success. “I firmly believe that dogs bred for working and sports from dogs with proven ability to learn and work will succeed when trained well.”

Kiersten credits her “wonderful breeders, Clubmead Labradors,” for setting Reckon up for success and encourages newcomers to “enjoy the journey. Enjoying the training is as important as the competition.”
For Kiersten, being recognized as a Top Dog is deeply meaningful. “It’s nice to be acknowledged for doing well at the sport I love playing, especially when I get to do it with one of my best buddies.”

Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier
Date of Birth: July 5, 2015
Breeder(s): Louise Beakes Dubreuil
Owner(s): Diane Guillotte
Handler(s): Diane Guillotte
Province: Quebec

Highway, the spirited Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier, has earned her place as the #3 Agility Dog, All Breeds, in the CKC Top Dogs rankings for 2025. At 11 years old, Highway continues to compete with enthusiasm and precision, recently achieving an extraordinary milestone of 18 championships, both regular and veteran. Her sustained success at this stage of her career is a true testament to careful conditioning, thoughtful management, and a partnership built on deep trust.

For owner and handler Diane Guillotte of Quebec, this season carries special meaning. “I am grateful to life for allowing me to continue having fun with my beautiful Highway for another season despite her being 11 years old,” Diane shares. That gratitude speaks volumes about the bond they share. Highway is not simply a competitor, but a true teammate and cherished companion.

As a Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier, Highway brings intelligence and enthusiasm to the agility ring. Diane notes that Wheatens can be sensitive to heat, so they prioritize indoor competitions and take extra care to keep Highway comfortable with shade, airflow, and proper hydration. This thoughtful attention to her well-being has played a key role in their longevity and continued success.

Diane extends heartfelt thanks to breeder Louise Beakes Dubreuil “for this once-in-a-lifetime dog,” as well as to Diana of physio4X4 “for her magical hands.” She also expresses appreciation for the clubs, volunteers, and competition friends who make each weekend enjoyable.

For Diane, achieving Top Dog status represents “pride in the work accomplished while respecting my play partner.” Her advice to newcomers reflects that same philosophy: “Have fun without putting pressure on yourself to win.” It is this balance of joy, respect, and dedication that has kept Highway happily running at the top year after year.

hilltop2024-kathy-laverdure-photographie-350.jpgCall Name: Bobbie McGee
Australian Cattle Dog
Date of Birth: November 15, 2018
Breeder(s): Lorraine Norris & Cindy Cavanagh
Owner(s): Lyse Savard
Handler(s): Lyse Savard
Province: Quebec

Bobbie turned seven in November. As her trainer, I'm not only proud of her titles but, above all, the growth in her confidence. Bobbie is naturally very cautious. She enjoys agility and often saves me from my own handling errors. I'm especially pleased on days when we successfully complete multiple qualifications. For most handlers, agility isn't an activity where Qs are a given. So, on those exceptional days when several successful runs are realized through perfect synchronization and smooth movement, I thank you, Bobbie chérie. These are extraordinary moments.

To those just starting out, remember: every training session is first and foremost an opportunity to play with your canine partner. For the second year in a row, my team is among the CKC's Top Dogs. I'm very proud of that. Certainly, there are the practices, the long hours of travel, and above all, the determination to reach our goal. Thank you to my girlfriend, Marie-Johanne Cloutier, for her support. Thank you to my coaches, Lucie Dessureault and Carole Côté, for their patience.

Thank you to Lorraine Norris, the breeder of the extraordinary Agassiz Cattle Dogs, for her trust, and for Johnny Be Good, my puppy, who one day – I'm hopeful – will follow in Bobbie's footsteps.

Thank you to the CKC agility community. You are a fantastic gang who run all kinds of breeds with joy and passion.

A special thought for Diane Guillotte and Highway for their inspiring presence at the top of the Top Dogs rankings for so many years.

9a3a6119-be60-4561-949c-55e1296a441a.jpgCall Name: Lula
Standard Poodle
Date of Birth:
July 28, 2015
Breeder(s): Murray Eason & Penny Harney
Owner(s): Jerri-Lynn Morrison & Murray Eason
Handler(s): Jerri-Lynn Morrison
Province: Alberta

The Canadian Kennel Club is proud to recognize Lula, the accomplished Standard Poodle who has earned her place among the 2025 CKC Top Dogs in Agility. At 10 years old, Lula continues to compete with enthusiasm alongside her co-owner and handler, Jerri-Lynn Morrison. Bred by Murray Eason and Penny Harney, and co-owned by Jerri-Lynn Morrison and Murray Eason, Lula’s journey reflects dedication, partnership, and a genuine love of the sport.

“I’m so grateful that Lula and I are still having fun doing agility when she is 10 and I am 67,” Jerri-Lynn shares. “Agility is helping us both stay fit.” Beyond the physical benefits, agility keeps them mentally sharp. Jerri-Lynn describes studying course maps, walking the course without her dog, and then recalling every detail while running. “It is such a good activity for my old brain… and then to remember all that once I am out there running with Lula!”

Training has played a key role in their success. Weekly classes with Kim Boyes in Calgary and Sarah Walters in Priddis have strengthened their skills, while early competitive obedience work with Barbara Walmer and Ellen Kovar helped transform Lula from a shy puppy into a confident learner. Jerri-Lynn follows the advice of renowned trainers Bob and Marian Bailey: “Be a splitter, not a lumper.”

On course, Lula’s athleticism shines. Her “total focus and lightning reflexes and flexibility have saved us on courses countless times,” says Jerri-Lynn. At home, her drive to work remains just as strong. If she does not get enough activity, she finds her own “puzzles” to solve, “not good ones,” Jerri-Lynn laughs.
Jerri-Lynn is grateful for the support behind the scenes. “I’m very grateful to Dr. Kathy Kimmel canine rehabilitation and Dr. Jennifer Richards for keeping Lula healthy and happy,” she says. “I so appreciate our agility classmates and fellow competitors. What a wonderful community to be part of!”

Now a confident senior, Lula reminds Jerri-Lynn of the poem When I am old, I shall wear purple, spirited and full of life. Her Top Dogs achievement celebrates joyful longevity, resilience, and the enduring bond between dog and handler.

Cali, a spirited Parson Russell Terrier, has earned her place among the Canadian Kennel Club’s 2025 Top Dogs in Agility, ranking #6 All Breeds. For co-owner and handler Mitcha Dubé of Québec, this recognition crowns a year filled with meaningful milestones across multiple disciplines.

“There were several wonderful moments with Cali in 2025 in the three CKC disciplines we practice: agility, rally, and obedience,” Mitcha shares. While Cali earned her second and third agility championships, one achievement stood above the rest: “The most memorable moment was when we obtained our Obedience Trial Champion title (OTCH). We worked really hard to earn this title, and I am grateful to Cali for giving me the opportunity to achieve it.”

Few dogs successfully balance high-level competition across agility, rally, and obedience, but Cali has proven herself a truly versatile athlete. After nearly a decade as teammates, she continues to compete with the same drive, intelligence, and enthusiasm that first brought them into the sport. Mitcha and Cali’s partnership is built on trust, joy, and a shared love of learning. “Even after all these years, Cali’s enthusiasm for training and competing remains as strong as ever,” she says.

True to her breed, Cali embodies the intelligence and athleticism of the Parson Russell Terrier. “They are capable of the best and the worst, and you need a good sense of humour to team up with them,” Mitcha laughs. “When they agree to team up with us, they are capable of anything.” Mitcha extends heartfelt thanks to agility coach Geneviève Lacroix, obedience trainer Michel Boulianne, and Cali’s breeders, Marie-Claude Lantagne and Julie Sansregret of Snow Valley Kennels, for their guidance and support.

“Appreciate every moment we have the privilege to share with our dogs,” Mitcha reflects. “We never know when it will be our last run.” Being named a CKC Top Dog is, in Mitcha’s words, “a wonderful recognition,” and a celebration of a remarkable partnership.

Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier
Date of Birth: September 3, 2020
Breeder(s): Lana Campbell & Jack Slack
Owner(s): Darla Dickson & Kevin Jorgensen
Handler(s): Kevin Jorgensen
Province: Alberta

Jackson, a spirited Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier, earned his place among the Canadian Kennel Club’s Top Dogs in Agility in 2025 with a season defined by focus, partnership, and determination. A standout milestone was achieving his second CKC Agility Master Championship at five years of age, a reflection of years of consistent training and trust between dog and handler.

Owned by Darla Dickson and Kevin Jorgensen, bred by Lana Campbell and Jack Slack, and handled by Kevin, Jackson has proven himself to be a thoughtful and highly engaged competitor. “Jackson consistently provides full concentration to a task, person, or situation,” shares co-owner Darla Dickson. That attentiveness is especially evident in the ring, where “Jackson is vigilant to Kevin’s handling cues, which is key to collaborative success.”

“The achievement of CKC Top Dog status legitimizes the immense dedication to the sport between handler and dog,” Darla reflects. Their journey is a powerful example of what can be achieved when determination, partnership, and community come together.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi
Date of Birth: April 6, 2021
Breeder(s): Vicky Fontaine
Owner(s): Brenda Goodbody
Handler(s): Brenda Goodbody
Province: Alberta

Kevyn, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, closed out an unforgettable 2025 season by earning her Agility Grand Master Champion Silver (AGMCHS) title at the very last trial of the year. For co-owner and handler Brenda Goodbody, the milestone was especially meaningful as it happened at their “home base” trial with the Rocky Mountain Working Herding Club of Alberta.

With deep roots in agility spanning nearly 30 years, Brenda never set out to be competitive. Her goal has always been partnership and purpose. Described as “a soft soul who is methodical, analytical, and doesn’t like making mistakes,” Kevyn’s 2025 season was about growth as much as results. Brenda began the year with one key objective: to allow Kevyn to take more risks in the ring. “It meant I had to give her the freedom to make mistakes… I had to grow as a handler,” Brenda explains. That shift strengthened their bond and trust in one another, leading to enormous progress for both dog and handler.

True to her herding roots, Kevyn approaches every course with focus and determination. “She is not a fast dog by any means, but she’s consistent and focused when she’s working,” Brenda notes. Her steadiness and thoughtful style have become hallmarks of their team.

Finishing 2024 ranked #191 All-Breed, Kevyn’s rise to #9 All-Breed, #2 Herding, and #1 Pembroke Welsh Corgi in 2025 is nothing short of astonishing. “This is not something I had ever dreamed of,” Brenda shares. “The goal has been to have fun and give my dog a job.”

Bred by Vicky Fontaine and owned and handled by Brenda Goodbody of Alberta, Kevyn’s journey reflects dedication, growth, and a deep love of the sport. Brenda extends heartfelt thanks to the trials and volunteers who make competition possible and encourages newcomers to cherish every moment and always listen to their dog.

Belgian Shepherd Dog
Date of Birth: May 28, 2014
Breeder(s): Christine Klockenbrink, BelCol Malinois
Owner(s): Sarah Walters
Handler(s): Sarah Walters
Province: Alberta

Desi, a Belgian Shepherd Dog (Malinois), has once again earned her place among the Canadian Kennel Club’s Top 10 All-Breed Agility Dogs for 2025. It is an extraordinary achievement for a dog approaching her 12th birthday. For co-owner and handler Sarah Walters, the milestone is especially meaningful. “What an absolute thrill to make Top Agility Dogs all breeds again,” she shares. “At her age, every single run we do together is a gift that I treasure.”

Bred by Christine Klockenbrink of BelCol Malinois in Ocala, Florida, Desi exemplifies the very best of her breed. “She’s everything a Belgian Shepherd should be, beauty, brains, and biddability,” says Sarah. While the Malinois is known for intensity and drive, Desi is frequently complimented on her calm demeanour. That steadiness did not happen by accident. From the day she came home, Sarah focused on reinforcing calm behaviour after meeting Desi’s considerable mental and physical needs.

“When she was younger, Desi needed a lot of mental stimulation,” Sarah explains, which meant structured training classes at least twice a week. That early investment built the thoughtful and confident competitor she is today. Desi’s versatility is equally impressive. In addition to her agility accomplishments, she holds her Rally Championship and Conformation Championship, along with titles in scent detection, chase ability, and tricks. “She loves doing it all!” Sarah adds.

Their journey has been supported by a dedicated team, including breeder Christine Klockenbrink, Kim at Hyper Hounds, Dr. Jenny at Sundance Animal Hospital, Cassidy of Evolution Equi-Sport Therapy, and Jerri-Lynn Morrison. From Alberta, Sarah and Desi continue to inspire the agility community, proving that with careful conditioning, thoughtful training, and a deep bond, excellence can endure well into the veteran years.

Mudi
Date of Birth: September 17, 2019
Breeder(s): Hanna Bates
Owner(s): Chantal Cyr
Handler(s): Chantal Cyr
Province: Québec

XpreSs, the spirited Mudi from Québec, delivered an explosive 2025 season, earning her place as the #10 All-Breed Agility dog in Canada. Owned and handled by Chantal Cyr and bred by Hanna Bates, XpreSs continues to prove that heart, drive, and partnership are the true keys to success.

“2025 was an explosive year for our team!” shares Chantal. “With our second agility championship under our belt, XpreSs proved that a small, reserved dog can become a true superstar in the ring thanks to her curiosity and unstoppable energy.”

That second championship speaks volumes about the consistency and dedication behind their journey. Success at this level is not accidental. It reflects years of training, trust, and a deep understanding between dog and handler. While XpreSs may be naturally reserved outside the ring, once on course she transforms into a focused, powerful athlete. Her quick thinking, agility, and eagerness to work showcase the intelligence and versatility that the Mudi breed is known for.

For Chantal, the journey has been very much a team effort. “A huge shoutout to our road partners who powered every highlight of this adventure,” she says. She also extends heartfelt thanks to “the organizing clubs, the judges, and especially the volunteers, the real driving force behind every single competition. Without you, this sport simply wouldn’t be the same.”

Earning a place among the CKC Top Dogs is a meaningful milestone for this dedicated pair. But if there is one thing clear about XpreSs and Chantal, it is that they are not slowing down. As Chantal puts it, “Onward to new challenges. We’re just getting started.”
