A big thank you to members who attended the Integrated Breed Health Program (IBHP) Town Hall in May.
Feedback opportunities like the Town Hall are important to ensuring that CKC programs support the preservation of well-bred, purebred dogs, are reflective of the values our members hold.
We were happy to receive positive feedback on the IBHP’s progress so far, and its future plans. Member discussions included suggestions of creating opportunities for mentorship between breeders within the program, the need for future breeder education on genetics, puppy rearing programs, and supporting better understanding around genetic testing. Members discussed the need for increased communications about the program, and ways to mitigate skepticism and address member concerns before launching integral parts. Members felt that once other members learn about what is included in the program, they will be supportive and accepting. Members also discussed the key elements of the new breeder recognition program called the CKC Breeder of Distinction program and identified potential sticking points and areas where collegiate members can lend their expertise and knowledge.
In case you missed it, CKC is taking significant steps to support member breeders in the preservation of their chosen breed(s) through an Integrated Breed Health Program. The IBHP includes five key projects: developing Breeder Education resources for members, stronger Breeder Community Support, compiling Breed Health Strategies, building a DNA program, and CKC’s breeder recognition program; Breeder of Distinction.
All projects under the Integrated Breed Health Program are being developed - and will be released - in a phased, supportive manner. Thank you to all our members who took time out of their busy schedules to join us at the Town Hall!
More member engagement opportunities, like May’s Town Hall, will be coming, so keep an eye on your inboxes and on social media.
