The Return of the CKC National Championship Dog Show: A Shared Vision Brought to Life

The wait is over. The CKC National Championship Dog Show is back. Returning this November to the International Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, the event will once again bring together purebred dogs, breeders, and handlers from across Canada for a national celebration of heritage, dedication, and community. Hosted during the Royal Canin Crown Classic National Championship Dog Show weekend, it marks an exciting new chapter in one of CKC’s most anticipated traditions.

The event takes place alongside the Christmas Canadian Pet Expo, a holiday showcase that welcomes more than 20,000 visitors and their pets each year. The Expo offers a weekend filled with learning and entertainment, featuring the Tru North Grooming Show, creative grooming demonstrations, the TICA Cat Show, pet photos with Santa, celebrity pet appearances, and a lively Marketplace highlighting pet products and artisan vendors.

Within this bustling weekend of activity lies the purebred community’s own highlight: the Aurora & District Kennel Club’s Crown Classic National Championship Dog Show, presented by Royal Canin, featuring the CKC National Championship Dog Show, Royal Canin Breeders’ Classic, Canadian Pet Expo Classic, Junior Handling, and more than a dozen regional and national breed specialties.

For Heather Brennan, President of the Aurora & District Kennel Club, the partnership represents the culmination of years of collaboration.

“Aurora & District Kennel Club, together with Royal Canin and the Canadian Pet Expo, has been working toward creating a national-scale event ever since the revival of our shows several years ago,” Brennan explains. “We’re happy to have the Canadian Kennel Club as a partner in achieving this goal.”

She notes that the show is rapidly becoming Canada’s answer to international events such as Westminster in the United States or Crufts in the United Kingdom, a major destination for exhibitors, breeders, and the public alike.

“Our partnership gives Canadians an opportunity to celebrate purebred dogs on a grand scale,” Brennan adds. “Year after year, it’s gotten bigger with more events, more participants, and more members of the public coming out. We plan on continuing that trend and making it Canada’s big event.”

For Helene Drouin, Communications Manager at Royal Canin Canada, supporting the Crown Classic and the CKC National Championship Dog Show is a natural extension of Royal Canin’s long-standing commitment to the purebred community.

“Royal Canin has proudly supported the Crown Classic for over 14 years, and this year’s event represents a long-held vision finally brought to life,” Drouin says. “Our continued support reflects Royal Canin’s deep commitment to the breeder and dog-enthusiast community while strengthening the relationships that drive this shared passion forward.”

Royal Canin will host a number of on-site initiatives, including its Learn to Earn and Coin Exchange programs, exhibitor hospitality, the National Breeders’ Classic, and the Royal Canin Breeder Village, where visitors can meet knowledgeable breeders and learn about the distinct qualities of each breed.

“At the National Show, education and competition work hand in hand,” Drouin explains. “While the competition celebrates excellence in breeding and presentation, educational opportunities led by Royal Canin associates provide valuable insights on canine health and nutrition. This combination ensures a well-rounded experience for everyone attending.”

Brennan highlights that the event’s collaboration with the Canadian Pet Expo opens doors for public engagement unmatched by any other dog show in Canada.

“The Expo typically welcomes over 20,000 members of the pet-loving public each year,” she says. “It’s an unparalleled opportunity to educate visitors about purebred dogs and dog sports, many of whom will encounter some of these breeds for the first time.”

With multiple rings of competition, educational sessions, and interactive experiences for the public, the Crown Classic National Championship Dog Show weekend provides a platform for the entire purebred dog community to connect, learn, and celebrate together.

As Drouin reflects, this year’s CKC National Championship Dog Show represents more than a competition. It is the realization of a shared vision.

“It’s inspiring to see the breeder and dog-enthusiast community come together on such a grand scale,” she says. “This event celebrates excellence, fosters connections, and showcases the dedication that defines the world of purebred dogs.”

Brennan agrees, emphasizing that the collaboration between CKC, the Aurora & District Kennel Club, Royal Canin, and the Canadian Pet Expo is key to ensuring a bright future for purebred dogs.

“If we want to keep dog sports and the purebred dog fancy growing, we need to reach the public,” she says. “Opportunities like this are few and far between, and this one is something special.”

The 2025 CKC National Championship Dog Show takes place Saturday, November 22 during the Royal Canin Crown Classic National Championship Dog Show weekend at the International Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.
