It is with immense pride that the Canadian Kennel Club congratulates our Canadian purebred dog winners at the 139th annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and all the hard-working breeders, owners and handlers who contributed to their success.
What an amazing moment it was when the regal Miss P—also known as Peyton—a 15 inch Beagle, GChX Tashtins Lookin For Trouble, took Best in Show and made history as the 6th Canadian-bred dog to win BIS at Westminster. Four-year-old Miss P is the grandniece of Uno, the first beagle to ever win the big show, in 2008. This is also a big win for the hound group as Beagles have been competing at Westminster since 1877. Following last night’s win, the affable Beagle, Miss P, will be retiring. A hearty congratulations goes out to Miss P’s breeder/owner, Lori Crandlemire and co-owner Kaitlyn Crandlemire from Enderby, British Columbia, along with handler, Will Alexander from Milton, Ontario.
Miss P is not new to winning; she has 17 Canadian BISs and 99 Group 1sts in Canada under her collar and was #3 Hound in 2012 and #8 all breeds in 2013. In addition, Miss P has 20 BISs—including this year’s BIS at Westminster and 91 Group 1sts in the U.S.
Amazingly, Miss P was one of three Canadian dogs to compete for Best in Show this year. Both breeder Linda Campbell’s Standard Poodle GCH. Dawin Hearts on Fire, winner of the Non-Sporting Group, and breeder/co-owner Donna Gottdenker’s Portuguese Water Dog GCH. Claircreek Impression de Matisse, who took the Working Group, also made it to the Final 7! We could not be more proud of their outstanding achievements.
With so many additional Canadian winners at Westminster, we look forward to highlighting the achievements of these amazing purebred dog competitors and their breeders, owners and handlers in the coming days.
Following the news of our Canadian winners at Westminster, CKC was pleased to speak with The Toronto Star and Global News to convey our pride in our quality Canadian-bred dogs and member breeders.
