Colchester, NS Kennel Development Bylaw Defeated
CKC is pleased to report that the Municipality of Colchester’s proposed Kennel Development bylaw was defeated at second reading on August 30.
The bylaw was intended to prohibit any kinds of kennels for the boarding of dogs in the Municipality of Colchester. If passed, the bylaw would essentially force CKC member breeders and related organizations out of business and out of the County.
CKC thanks Emily Gratton, spokesperson for the Cobequid Dog Club and CKC Communications Committee Member, for spearheading local efforts and many other CKC members for stepping up by speaking to the press, attending rallies and
contacting Council.
We would also like to thank Zone 1 Board Director, Lendra Barker for her support in working with CKC to request that Council reject the bylaw in favour of consultation with CKC and other stakeholders, including the public.
The by-law has now been referred to the Colchester Planning Advisory Committee for further review, with public input.
