2020 Honourary Chair of the CKC and Honourary Veterinarian

Announced at the most recent board meeting held virtually June 6 & 7, 2020, the CKC Board of Directors is pleased to share CKC Life Member Thora Brown and Dr. Eric Carnegy have been appointed as Honourary Chair of the CKC and Honourary Veterinarian for 2020, respectively.

Thora-Brown-1.jpgThora Brown has been a fixture of the Canadian Dog Fancy for over five decades. A world-renowned All Breed Dog Judge, Thora is the founding member of many CKC-recognized clubs, including the Ottawa Valley All Setter Association, the English Cocker Spaniel Club of Canada, Group VI Club of Ontario, the Golden Triangle Cocker Spaniel Club, and more. Thora is known as an expert in the Setter breeds and has owned and shown BIS & BISS winning Cocker Spaniels, Irish Setters, Whippets, and Bulldogs. She is an excellent representative of our judging fraternity and the Dog Fancy, always keen to share her knowledge and skills with those willing to learn.

Thora currently sits as Chair of the CKC Rules of Eligibility Committee, was Chair of the Event Officiating Committee, and served as President of the Canadian Dog Judges Association from 2006-2013. Having also served on the CKC Board of Directors as Representative for Zone 5-Eastern Ontario for three years and as a past Chair of the CKC Board of Directors, the CKC Board was honored to invite Thora to sit as Honourary Chair of the CKC for 2020.

Dr-C-July-2011.jpgDr. Eric Carnegy owns and operates a full-service veterinary clinic in Halifax, Nova Scotia. With over 40 years of veterinary medical experience, Dr. Carnegy has a true passion for his profession and animals.

His clinic currently is the only provider of total reproductive services in the Atlantic Provinces. Dr. Carnegy works closely with breeders throughout the entire breeding process, offering much needed specialized services and procedures. In 2004 Dr. Carnegy expanded his clinic to include an ICSB canine semen processing/storage center, a service many breeders in the area previously had limited access to. With his extensive knowledge of dog breeds and commitment to ongoing education on canine reproduction, his work supporting breeders is credited as positively impacting breed health in the Atlantic Region for generations to come.

Dr. Carnegy is an active member of the Canadian Kennel Club. He is involved with the Halifax Kennel Club and is a regular exhibitor at local dog shows with his Leonbergers and English Cocker Spaniels. As someone who is so clearly aligned with each and every one of CKC’s values, the Board of Directors is pleased that Dr. Carnegy will serve as CKC’s Honourary Veterinarian for 2020.
