We are pleased to announce that the 51 Rules of Eligibility (ROE) for the breeds below are now active in our database.
How does this affect the registration of my dogs?
The Rules of Eligibility include up to 10 basic physical traits for each breed, which are the minimum requirements to be able to breed a Dam and a Sire in Canada and receive Canadian Kennel Club registration for the puppies. If a puppy born in a litter does not meet the colour restrictions for that breed when registering, a Conditional Certificate of Registration will be issued. A litter registration from a Dam or a Sire that has a Conditional Registration will not be accepted.
Why do we have ROE for the breeds?
As an association incorporated under the Animal Pedigree Act, we are required to establish minimum breeding trait requirements for each breed we recognize.
What do I need to do going forward?
Registering Litters:
When completing a litter application, you will be asked if the parents meet those ROE minimum traits. If they do not meet the ROE the puppies will not qualify for registration with the CKC.
Registering Individual Puppies from a Dam/Sire who meet the ROE:
When registering the puppies individually, you also have the option to list if one was born with a Non-standard colour that is not included in those ROE’s. If it was born with a colour that does not comply with those colour requirements then the puppy’s registration certificate will be a Conditional Registration.
