We are thrilled to announce the recognition of four new breeds into the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) registry! These additions have been officially approved by Agriculture Canada under the Animal Pedigree Act and are now part of the CKC purebred dog family.
Introducing Our New Breeds:
- Azawakh - This elegant and athletic sighthound joins the Hound Group, celebrated for its grace and endurance.
- Japanese Akita - Known for its strength and loyalty, this striking breed is added to the Non-Sporting Group.
- Miniature American Shepherd - Compact, intelligent, and energetic, this breed is a fantastic new member of the Herding Group.
- Russkiy Toy - Small yet full of personality, this delightful companion breed joins the Toy Group.
We warmly welcome these breeds into our registry and look forward to seeing them continue to shine in competitions, sports, and as cherished companions!
CKC is actively working with Agriculture Canada to finalize standards that meet the Animal Pedigree Act requirements for the Parson Russell Terrier and Russell Terrier which are currently pending approval.
The CKC is also working to update our systems to accept these breeds as recognized breed applications. All existing dogs of these four breeds in the database with an MCN will be converted to a CKC-recognized number. Stay tuned for more updates!
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to purebred dogs in Canada.
