CKC Considering Recognition of Four Miscellaneous Breeds


The Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) is considering the recognition of the following Miscellaneous breeds:
  • Bergamasco Shepherd Dog
  • Biewer Terrier
  • Grand Bassett Griffon Vendéen
  • Yakutian Laika
In accordance with Chapter 4 RG004, Section D (5 & 6) and Section 20(3) of the Animal Pedigree Act, CKC is required to notify members and breeders of the proposed breeds and conduct a poll to determine if a majority of Canadian breeders are in favour of recognition.

Sign-up period: Breeders of these breeds are invited to sign up between October 15 and November 15, 2025, to participate in the polling process. As part of the sign-up, breeders will be asked to provide their name, address, email, and phone number.
 
This process ensures that breeders have a voice in determining whether these breeds move forward for CKC recognition.
