In Memoriam: Margaret “Marg” Willmott


The Canadian Kennel Club is saddened to share the passing of longtime member Margaret “Marg” Willmott.

Screen-Shot-2026-05-01-at-10-57-20-AM.pngMarg was a highly respected breeder and mentor whose dedication to the Newfoundland dog spanned decades. Through her Topmast Kennels, she bred more than 200 champions, with bloodlines that have had a lasting influence in Canada and internationally.

Beyond her accomplishments in the show ring, Marg was deeply committed to the health and preservation of the breed. She supported research into genetic conditions affecting Newfoundlands and was a strong advocate for responsible, ethical breeding practices.

A Life Member of the Canadian Kennel Club, Marg generously shared her knowledge and experience with others, helping guide and inspire future generations of breeders and fanciers. Her contributions to the purebred dog community leave a meaningful and lasting legacy.

Marg’s impact will continue to be seen in the dogs she bred and the many individuals she mentored throughout her life.


The Canadian Kennel Club extends its sincere condolences to Marg’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
