National Purebred Dog Day: Celebrating History, Purpose, and Community

On May 1, the Canadian Kennel Club is proud to mark National Purebred Dog Day by recognizing the history, purpose, and people behind purebred dogs.

Purebred dogs have been thoughtfully developed over generations, with specific traits that support their roles in sport, work, and companionship. In Canada, the Canadian Kennel Club plays an important role in maintaining breed standards, tracking pedigrees, and supporting responsible breeding practices across the country.

To mark the occasion, we’ve published a new article on The Dish that explores the origins of purebred dogs, what the term “purebred” means in Canada, and how the CKC continues to support and preserve breeds today.

Read the full article on The Dish.

We’re also inviting our community to join the conversation. Visit our Facebook and Instagram to share your questions about purebred dogs, dog sports, or the CKC, and let us know how long you’ve been part of the CKC community or if you’re just getting started.
