The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is a small but sturdy terrier with a rich history and unmistakable appearance. Recognized by its distinctive topknot, expressive eyes, and long, low silhouette, the breed is known for being affectionate, intelligent, and full of character.

One of the breed's most unique claims to fame is its name. The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is the only recognized dog breed named after a fictional character, Dandie Dinmont, from Sir Walter Scott's novel Guy Mannering.

Originally developed near the border of England and Scotland, Dandie Dinmont Terriers were bred to hunt otter and badger. Today, they are cherished companions and continue to capture the hearts of breed enthusiasts around the world.

World Dandie Dinmont Terrier Day provides an opportunity to celebrate the breed's history, recognize the dedication of responsible breeders and owners, and introduce more people to this charming terrier.

Whether you are a longtime Dandie enthusiast or learning about the breed for the first time, June 6 is a wonderful opportunity to discover what makes the Dandie Dinmont Terrier so special.
