Canadian Kennel Club Announces Board Leadership Updates

The Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) is pleased to announce two updates to the organization’s Board of Directors following decisions made at the February/March Board meeting.

Robert “Bob” Whitney Appointed Chair of the Board of Directors

Robert “Bob” Whitney, Director for Zone 5 – Ontario East, has been elected Chair of the CKC Board of Directors.
A longtime member of the Canadian Kennel Club and an experienced leader within the purebred dog community, Mr. Whitney brings decades of involvement in CKC governance, events, and judging.

Over the years, he has served in a variety of roles within the CKC, including as a member of the Board of Directors and as Chair of several committees. He currently serves as a member of the Legislation Committee and the Ad Hoc Committee – Owner/Handler Competitions and is also the head of the Beagle and Basset Hound Field Trial Council and the Pointing Breeds Council.

Mr. Whitney has been actively involved in the sport as a breeder, owner, and handler, having worked with several breeds throughout his career. As an all-breed judge, he has judged all-breed and specialty shows around the world, including assignments in Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Bermuda, South America, Scandinavia, and the United States.

Following Mr. Whitney’s election as Chair, the Board appointed Tempest Deptuch as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors.

Thomas Alexander Appointed Zone 8 Director

The CKC Board has also appointed Thomas Alexander as the Zone 8 (Manitoba) Board Director. Mr. Alexander will serve the remainder of the current term, which runs until December 2026.

Mr. Alexander is a Life Member of the Canadian Kennel Club and brings decades of experience in the dog community. He has been an active member of the Fort Garry Kennel Club for more than 20 years and previously served as its President.

He has also served the CKC on the Event Officiating Committee for two terms and on the CKC Examining Committee. In addition, he has held leadership roles within several breed and all-breed clubs, including serving as President of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club and currently as President of the River City Labrador Club.

Mr. Alexander has extensive experience supporting CKC events, including serving as Show Superintendent and Show Chairman for Fort Garry Kennel Club dog shows for many years.

The Canadian Kennel Club congratulates Mr. Whitney and Mr. Alexander on their appointments and looks forward to their continued contributions to the organization and its members.
