  • $65 exam fee + $15 Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) fee for breeds eligible for OFA Certification
  • $65 exam fee for all other brachycephalic breeds
 
Calling all breeders/owners of all brachycephalic breeds!
 
Please join us for our Respiratory clinic (Respiratory Function Grading Scheme) on May 31, in Edmonton, Alberta! The screening is open to all brachycephalic breeds and the seventeen breeds listed on the OFA website are eligible for OFA certification. Every dog evaluated will receive an exam report at the time of testing.

Participating in the Respiratory clinic has a number of benefits for you and your dogs including:
  • Reducing the incidence of producing puppies affected by BOAS by screening your breeding stock and including the results in your selection criteria.
  • Increasing your understanding and awareness about the Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) condition.
  • Allowing you to share the results with prospective puppy buyers.
  • Joining a growing number of breeders of brachycephalic breeds who are taking an active role in enhance their breeding programs.

Your participation also helps to grow the Respiratory clinics to become one of the routine tests done in Canada and has broader benefits including:
  • Allowing CKC to share how Respiratory clinics are growing with government and industry stakeholders.
  • Growing the number of qualified Respiratory Function Grading Scheme (RFGS) examiners by ensuring that new shadowing veterinarians can examine an adequate number of dogs with varying grades, in order to gain experience and proficiency in the RFGS before becoming OFA approved.
  • Enabling robust data collection that can inform future research and help strengthen respiratory health initiatives over time.
 
How to Register:
  1. Pre-Registration is required using OFA Online: https://online.ofa.org
  2. Login to your account, or create one, then pick the dog you want tested, select the RFGS clinic date and fill out the application.
  3. Email: [email protected] to set up an appointment.
 
CKC is privileged to partner with the OFA to bring the RFGS to Canada. CKC launched the first clinic in March 2023, and we look forward to announcing further events this year. We will continue to work with the breed clubs and collaborate with key stakeholders to promote and preserve the health and wellbeing of all purebred dogs, including brachycephalic breeds.
