For many exhibitors, one of the most rewarding aspects of Conformation competition is presenting and succeeding with a dog they own and handle themselves. Beginning January 1, 2027, the Canadian Kennel Club will recognize those accomplishments through the new Canadian National Owner-Handled Series (CNOHS).
Created to celebrate the dedication, skill, and commitment of owner-handlers across the country, the CNOHS offers eligible exhibitors the opportunity to participate in a dedicated owner-handled competition while earning national rankings.
What Is the CNOHS?
The CNOHS is a non-titling competition offered at participating CKC Conformation events. The series runs alongside regular Conformation competition and gives eligible owner-handlers an additional opportunity to compete against fellow owner-handled dogs. Participation is optional for clubs and exhibitors, and there is no additional entry fee.
How Does It Work?
Exhibitors declare eligibility when entering their dog in a regular CKC Conformation class. Once entered, eligible dogs compete in CNOHS judging following the completion of regular Breed, Group, and Best in Show competition.
CNOHS points are awarded based on placements earned at the Breed, Group, and Best Owner-Handled levels. Results are tracked through Canuck Dogs and contribute to national owner-handled rankings throughout the year.
The Road to the National CNOHS Final
One of the most exciting features of the program is the opportunity to qualify for the National CNOHS Final.
At the end of each qualification period, the top-ranking owner-handled dogs in each breed become eligible to compete at a national event where the winner is determined solely by performance on the day—not by ranking position. The National Final will bring together outstanding owner-handled dogs from across Canada to compete for national recognition and bragging rights.
Expanding Opportunities in 2028
Beginning in 2028, Regional CNOHS competitions will be introduced across Canada. These events will provide exhibitors with additional opportunities to earn enhanced ranking points and strengthen their path toward National Final qualification.

Celebrating Owner-Handlers
Whether your goal is national recognition, qualification for the National Final, or simply enjoying another opportunity to step into the ring with your dog, the CNOHS is designed to celebrate the important role owner-handlers play in our sport.
We look forward to welcoming exhibitors across Canada as the Canadian National Owner-Handled Series begins in 2027.
