The Harmonization of Genetic Testing for Dogs (HGTD) helps dog owners, breeders, and veterinary health professionals find the right international genetic test provider and testing information by providing details on a test provider’s measure of quality, business and research information, and tests provided – as well as information on hundreds of breed-specific DNA tests.

Launched in May 2018, there are two major components: the Quality Testing Database and Genetic Counselling resources.

Quality Testing Database
Our searchable database currently holds information on 300+ phenes across all breeds/types, and provides a plethora of information on each phene: links to OMIA, gene + mutations, a simple and advanced disease description, inheritance details, links to original publications, patents/licenses, comments from the original researchers/experts on application, and breed specific information (such as research/validation) - where possible.

Genetic Testing Resources
The HGTD genetic counselling resources provide access to basic introductory articles on genetics, articles on application of genetics in breed health management and advanced work in technical genetics research.

Get Involved in HGTD!
We welcome additional participant GTPs, more collaborators from any stakeholders concerned with dog health and welfare, the advice of experts, the participation of breed clubs and other consumer groups. We stand ready to provide more information to ongoing discussions.

Please feel free to contact us as we work together for healthy dogs and to support those who breed and own them: IPFD CEO, Dr. Brenda Bonnett, at brenda.bonnett@ipfdogs.com and/or HGTD Project Manager, Aimee Llewellyn-Zaidi, at aimee.llewellyn-zaidi@ipfdogs.com
