2018 CKC Seminar on Reproduction and Breeding: Improving Breeding Program Success
Due to the feedback of CKC members and attendees last year, Dr. Gayle Watkins of Avidog International is back as our main presenter. She will present on two topics:
  • The Boys We Love: Raising, Managing and using a Stud Dog
In this session, Gayle will cover what stud dog and bitch owners need to know about studs, semen and sperm, including how to raise a young dog to become an effective stud, nutrition, conditioning and breeding management, how to read semen reports and stud contracts, types of semen and types of breedings and what to do when things go wrong.
  • Timing Your Breedings: From Beginning to End
The goal of this session is to help participants increase their breeding success rates by understanding timing. Gayle will explore timing over a bitch's lifespan including when to start, how often to breed and when to stop, how the type of semen and breeding affect timing, and timing your breedings from first blood to whelping and what to do when things go awry.
Vaccine antibody testing can be helpful to your breeding program – Find out how!
Joining Gayle this year is Dr. Laurie Larson from the University of Wisconsin. An expert on small animal immunology, Dr. Larson will guide participants through an interactive discussion covering the pros and cons of various puppy vaccination schedules, reasons for vaccine failure in puppies, understanding types of antibody tests, using dam nomographs, active response to vaccines versus maternal antibody and more.

Watch for specific registration details coming soon and be sure to share with your fellow members.

Thank you to our presenting sponsor, Purina® Pro Plan®, for such generous support of the CKC Seminar.
