Québec Members are Invited to Take a Survey Re: Regulation Implemented in February 2024

CKC has been busy advocating on your behalf over the last several months and would like to provide an update on activities underway to support our members and the health and well-being of purebred dogs in Québec.

In April and July, we met with representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation du Québec - MAPAQ) to discuss the changes to Québec’s regulations regarding the welfare and safety of domestic companion animals and equines implemented in February 2024. MAPAQ has shared that while no changes will be made to the regulations in the short-term, they would like your feedback and input regarding how these regulations are being implemented and how they impact our members.

To ensure that your concerns are well represented, we invite you to share your experiences regarding these regulations via a survey below by November 29, 2024.

We have also been collaborating with other stakeholders to advance the interests of CKC members and purebred dogs in Québec.

Our activities include:
  • A positive meeting with L'Ordre des médecins vétérinaires du Québec (OMVQ) in August to discuss working together on implementing mandatory permanent identification in dogs throughout Quebec. We are encouraged by this discussion and look forward to advancing this initiative.
  • Making a submission to the Québec Committee on Planning and Public Domain in September in relation to extending the concept of traceability and mandatory microchipping for companion animals.
  • Meeting with L'Association des directeurs généraux des municipalités du Québec (ADGMQ) in October to discuss the mandatory permanent identification of pets and explore opportunities for collaboration to strengthen pet management in our communities.
  • Participating in the Québec Animal Health and Welfare Strategy's Annual Partners' Meeting held on November 14th.
We will continue to work with the support of our Zone 3 Director, Sylvain Sirois, our Québec government relations firm, and valued members to ensure that the needs and concerns of all Québec members are well represented. Watch for more updates in the weeks ahead, in support of the health and well-being of purebred dogs and all dogs.
