Notice To Obedience & Rally Obedience Trial Judges

In an effort to ensure that exhibitors with disabilities and mobility issues participating in Obedience and Rally Obedience Trials are provided with accommodation, the Obedience & Rally Obedience Trial Council has been reviewing the rules and policies in this regard.

In accordance with The Obedience Trial and Rally Obedience Trial Rules & Regulations, Obedience, Chapter 8, Regulations For Performance & Judging, Section 8.1.3, Handlers with Disabilities:

“At the judge’s discretion, a modification to the exercises/routines may be made to accommodate a handler with disabilities, providing that such modification does not aid the dog’s performance and the dog is required to perform all exercises/routines.”

Further, in accordance with Rally Obedience, Chapter 2, General Rules & Regulations, Section 2.3.10, The Time Steward, (d):

“The time steward shall notify the judge whenever the time limit of 4:00 minutes is exceeded.”

Until such time as the rules and regulations can be updated, the Council has provided the following directive for judges, which has also been approved by the CKC Board of Directors:

In Rally Obedience Trials, at all levels of competition, when the time limit of four minutes is reached, in lieu of automatically excusing the team, if the team is earning a qualifying score the team should be permitted to continue to complete the course. If, at the four-minute time limit, it has been determined that the team will be marked as non-qualifying, the team will be excused. This directive applies to all competitors.
