The Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) is pleased to announce that Joan Bennett, Zone 11 Representative, has been elected Chair of CKC’s Board of Directors.
A graduate of the University of British Columbia, Joan Bennett worked for over 30 years as a senior Legal Assistant. She is now retired and has served as Treasurer of a strata council since 2003.
Ms. Bennett has been actively involved in purebred dogs since 1965 and is a CKC Life Member. Her dedication to CKC is evidenced by her service during two terms on the Board during the 1990s when she served as Chair of the Bylaw (Legislation), Club Relations, and Versatility Committees, Chair of the Conformation Council, and a member of the Event Officiating and CEO Review Committees. Ms. Bennett subsequently served two more terms from 2012 to present and during this time has served as Chair of the Board Orientation/Education Committee and Junior Kennel Club Council, Board Liaison to the Event Officiating Committee, and as a member of the Legislation, Club Relations, and Cropping, Docking, Dewclaw Committees. She is also part of the Task Force dealing with Provincial Government legislation on canine matters.
In addition to her service to the Canadian Kennel Club, Ms. Bennett has held numerous executive positions in all-breed and specialty clubs. She has acted as show secretary, show superintendent, and ring steward at numerous events through the years, all experiences that have given her an understanding of the ever-changing issues faced by clubs and exhibitors.
In her new role as Chair of the Board, Ms. Bennett’s breadth of experience will undoubtedly bring tremendous benefit to CKC and its members. Please join us in congratulating her as she picks up the gavel as CKC’s new Chair of the Board of Directors.
