RKOC's First Annual Prairie Christmas Shows and Trials

July 17, 2019
dikens.jpgThe Regina Kennel and Obedience Club hosted their first annual Prairie Christmas Shows and Trials in December.

If you didn’t attend the Regina Kennel and Obedience Club’s Prairie Christmas Shows and Trials, you will wish you had! On December 7- 9, the RKOC hosted their 102ndevent; however, this wasn’t any ordinary event- this was the first annual Prairie Christmas Shows and Trials.

Lynn Gore, show chairperson and fundraising coordinator, reached out to CKC to share event details, demonstrating the power of the CKC community in bringing people, and dogs, together.

Each day of this four-day event had a theme, with everyone who participated dressing up. “This is what dog shows are missing,” said Lynn Gore. “The fun, the friendship, and the pizzazz!”

Friday, December 7 was “Christmas Eve” theme, with exhibitors and judges dressed in pyjamas!

Laura Reeves of Pure Dog Talk was also hosted by The Regina Kennel and Obedience Club with in kind sponsorship.  She judged the Junior Handlers, as well as a “best of the best” Sweepstakes.

Laura also hosted a Podcast from the show. The topic of choice was "Mentoring our Future”, featuring respected and noted Canadian Judge Lee-Ann Bateman, first-time-to-Canada Judge from Australia, Linda Buckley, and her daughter, all breed Australian Judge/FCI Judge, Tabatha Buckley Bettis.

Sunday, December 9 was “Ugly Sweater Boxing Day” theme. The judges and exhibitors did not disappoint. Laura of Pure Dog Talk was able to host some special one-on-one sessions with participants. This gave exhibitors the opportunity to learn some tricks of the trade from a new perspective.

“I just wanted to share a quick snapshot of what a little "prairie" Club can do when put to task,” Lynn Gore shared. “The world of dog shows is alive and thrives in Saskatchewan!”

Mark your calendars- the Regina Kennel and Obedience Club will host the second Prairie Christmas Shows and Trials December 5-8, 2019. This will include five CKC sanctioned obedience trails, six limited all-breed shows, three sweepstakes and one Canine Good Neighbour test. Laura Reeves of Pure Dog Talk will also join RKOC for the 2019 event.
