Zoey Scott’s debut in the conformation ring at the Champlain Dog Club Show in April has many members of the dog show community talking.
Prior to entering the ring for the first time on April 20 at the show in Petawawa, Ontario, Zoey Scott had only attended one dog show– the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City. The show at the Garden sparked her interest in the sport and upon returning to Ottawa, Zoey signed up for handling classes. She immediately fell in love with the sport and would look forward to her weekly class. During her third class, Zoey began to work with Pointer, KRA N Zensu Tennessee Whiskey, call name “Daniel”. Daniel and Zoey were a great match, and the young Pointer responded very well to Zoey.
Prior to entering the ring at the Champlain Dog Show, Zoey spent the Friday on-site learning the routine of a show day, which helped calm her. The following day, Daniel and Zoey entered the ring for the first time together, right after being reminded to “have fun, smile, don’t rush and enjoy the moment.”
All who witnessed Zoey in the ring complemented her fantastic presentation, understanding of ring procedure and movement. The advice, practice and observation really paid off as Daniel went on to take Best Puppy in Show under Judge Joy Hodgkinson!
“Being in the ring and the overall experience at the show was so amazing. Despite feeling intimidated at first, the people at the show immediately made me feel welcomed. Everyone was so kind and willing to help me learn. I am extremely thankful to my incredible mentors, Rhoda Ace, Wally Ace, Kyle Ace and Shannon Kaluski for guiding me through this journey. I’m looking forward to progressing with Daniel and seeing where the show world takes us” says Zoey.
Zoey would advise anyone interested in joining the wonderful world of dog shows to “Go for it! Take some handling classes, start with small shows to get the hang of the routine, and most importantly have fun! It’s a great way to bond with your dog and it’s a very rewarding experience.”
Zoey now co-owns Daniel with his breeders Kyle Ace and Ben Clarke. We wish Daniel and Zoey the best of luck in their show career and look forward to seeing them in the ring this summer!
