Canadians bring the heat to Orlando

December 20, 2019
ZPRTufGOQo641MfEt3Q9_Saxson-Collie-1.jpgHighlights from the AKC National Championship 2019

The AKC National Championship Dog Show was held for the 19th year in a row at the Orlando Convention Centre. 5,284 dogs from all over the globe competed to be Top Dog. This included 159 Golden Retrievers, 107 Australian Shepherds, 91 French Bulldogs, 82 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels… I could go on, but I’m sure you get the picture.

Even with the massive number of entries of high-quality purebred dogs, Canada shined bright and reminded the world that our dogs are second to none. Here are some Canadian brags from the 2019 AKC National Championship presented by Royal Canin that we can all be very proud of:

Beagle GCHB Foxtail’s Race To The Finish won Best of Breed under Judge Clay Coady. AJ made the cut in the Hound Group as well. He’s owned by Sheri L. Berndt-Smith, Darrell Smith and Will Alexander, who is also his handler.

Woody aka GCH Redmoon’s Sexy Son of a Duck took Best of Breed under Judge Mrs. Christine E. Calcinari.  He also made the cut in the Sporting Group. This handsome Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is proudly owned by Kendyl Schultze. Woody is presented by Chelby Marling.

MZzkWtSETxelezDqlJCa_Siba-Standard.pngSophia the Old English Sheepdog won the Herding Group under Judge Ms. Mary Anne Brocious. She is known in the ring as GCHG Bagatelle Moonlight Drive and is owned by Roberta Corbett, Bernard Charest and Joanne Charest.

Reserve Best in Show

Reserve Best in Show at the 2019 AKC National Dog Show was presented by Judge Mr. Jordan L Chamberlain to GCHP Stonerun Afternoon Tea. Siba is a Standard Poodle and she’s owned by Connie Unger and William Lee. Siba’s handler is Chrystal Murray.

This year’s AKC National Dog Show has left us cheering “Go Canada Go!”  I’d like to wish the entire Canadian Fancy a very Happy Holiday Season. Enjoy your break and get ready to rock in 2020! Maybe I’ll see you at Elora Gorge!
