Top 10 Most Popular Dog Breeds 2023
April 03, 2024
The Canadian Kennel Club is proud to share with you the Top Ten Most Popular Dog Breeds of 2023!
Ten breeds from five Groups make up the list. For the 29th year in a row, Canada’s own Labrador Retriever takes the top spot followed by the Golden Retriever and the German Shepherd Dog. The French Bulldog steps up to the number four spot and the Poodle takes fifth.
The charming Cavalier King Charles Spaniel makes its first appearance on the Top Ten list, coming in ninth. The Cavaliers have been recognized by the Canadian Kennel Club since 1957 and are known for their gentle and affectionate nature.
A reminder to those looking to add a puppy to their home: Just because a breed is popular does not mean it is the right fit for every home. Be sure to do your research and meet with owners of adult versions of the breed you are interested in. A show or trial is a great place to do that. Always buy from an accountable breeder and check out the national club’s webpage for more information on the breed that interests you.
