Canadian dogs and their dedicated breeders, owners, and handlers made their mark at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. From breed competition to a historic Best in Show win, the following dogs earned recognition on one of the world’s most prestigious stages.
Leading the way was Penny, the Canadian-bred Doberman Pinscher bred by Theresa Connors-Chan and Gregory Chan, whose Best in Show victory marked a long-awaited return for the breed, with the last Doberman Pinscher claiming the top honour at Westminster in 1989. Adding to the moment’s significance, Penny was handled by Andy Linton of the United States, who also handled the last Doberman Pinscher to win Best in Show at Westminster more than three decades ago. Penny’s win represents a milestone moment for Canadian dogs at Westminster, becoming the first Canadian-bred Best in Show winner since 2015, when a Beagle bred in Canada earned the title.

Canadian judge Raymond Yurick judged multiple breeds within the Hound Group, including Afghan Hounds, Borzois, Greyhounds, Ibizan Hounds, Scottish Deerhounds, and Whippets. Fellow Canadian judge Shawn Nichols provided last-minute support by assisting with ring stewarding.
At Westminster’s 2nd annual Flyball competition, Ontario’s Some Ruff Competition delivered a second-place finish in the top division, posting a best time of 16.288.
